Dawn's Story

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Dawn attended Baltimore County public schools. She matriculated at Virginia State University for her Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, and Coppin State University for her master's degree coursework in Special Education.

Dawn has taught elementary, middle, and high school levels in the Baltimore City school system for 19 years. Currently, she is employed as a Behavior Specialist with Baltimore County Schools at Johnnycake Elementary School.

On December 29, 2006, Dawn was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 39. After completing surgery and treatment, she has taken on the task of educating the community at health fairs, churches, colleges/universities, health programs, etc. to enlighten the community and create an awareness for the many aspects of breast cancer.

In addition to steadfastly working with Breast Friends (Sinai Hospital's support group), Dawn continues her quest of enhancing awareness by working on the Health & Wellness ministry at her church, Morning Star Baptist (Catonsville), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and The American Cancer Society.
